I write mystery and thriller stories. Some have supernatural or speculative elements while others are more realistic. As a reader, I enjoy fiction on the darker end of the spectrum, with rich characters, a sense of foreboding mystery and danger, adventure, purposeful pacing, suspense, occasional humor, and simplistic prose that sings. So I incorporate these elements into my own work when possible.
